The Teddy Bear Tale
Sitting on the shelf, looking like the small brown bear that he was, Teddy watched the lady as she busied herself doing the things that busy ladies do when they are all alone.
Teddy could imagine himself walking around and being busy too, just like the lady. He had dreams of being a real bear but not the bad kinda bear. Teddy liked the lady and wanted to help her. He had seen it all, been with her thru everything. Somtimes she would take him down from the shelf and hold him tight to her and cuddly him and love him. Sometimes she would cry and her tears would fall on his head. Teddy longed, at those times, to be a real bear. One who could comfort the lady. Maybe if he could just hold her once and show her he cared too, maybe her tears would dry and she would smile again. She had such a warm smile. Teddy knew that she had a special smile just for him. It was the one that made his heart smile. If only he could return that smile to her. If only he could make her feel as good as she made him feel.
Lately, the lady was crying more and more. Her tears now burned when they fell on his head. He could feel them more and more. It was as if something were happening to him. But here he sat on the shelf, only able to watch her and dream of one day helping her.
In the night a great rip in the fabric of time enveloped Teddy and the lady. When Teddy realized what had happened he also realized he could move on his own. He got down off the shelf and started to look for the lady. He went to her bedroom. He knew where that was because the lady had taken him there many times. She had lain Teddy by her as she slept. Now Teddy knew he would be able to help her as she had had helped him. He ventured on imto the bedroom and there to his horror laid the lady. When the fabric of time had ripped the lady had been turned into a doll. She laid on her bed as silent as Teddy had once been. Teddy went to the bed and picked her up. Held her close to his chest and cried for a lost dream. As his tears fell on her head she knew what Teddy had felt for all those years. She wanted so much to help Teddy. To hold him again as she once had held him. And in her eyes tiny tears formed and fell on Teddy's chest. Teddy felt the wetness of the tears and was awed that such a thing could happen.
So Teddy carried her out into the still changing fabric and walked with her to another time and place. As they crossed the barrier, a wonderous thing happened to them both. They became entwined and merged into one. They became a beam of light that decended to earth and when the light struck the planet it shattered into two beings that were close to human form. Everyone, who saw them, loved the two beings. Soon they had a new name. The people called the beings storytellers and forever after they made people happy.
